Synopsis

Not much makes sense but everything feels right in Zhang Lu’s charming slice-of-life film, FUKUOKA.

Hae-hyo (Kwon Hae-hyo, Hotel by the River) and Je-moon (Yoon Je-moon, Mother) were very good friends in university, eventually going their separate ways after a bitter falling out. They have not seen or heard from each other in 28 years. As Je-moon, now a bookseller, approaches middle age, the memory of his uni life haunts him more and more frequently.

One day, a frequent customer at the bookstore named So-dam (Park So-dam, Parasite), intrudes into Je-moon’s quiet second-hand bookstore, disturbing his life. She convinces him to set out on a long journey to Japan to search for Hae-hyo. In Japan, when the three of them finally congregate in a local pub, can the problems of their past be reconciled?
