Synopsis

Still banned in Japan, this unique biopic portrays the infamous last day of celebrated novelist Yukio Mishima (played by Ken Ogata). Schrader and his co-scriptwriters, Chieko Schrader and Leonard Schrader, blur the lines between fact and fiction by interspersing chapters from Mishima’s literary works. The result: a cinematic masterpiece which matches the devastating beauty of Mishima’s prose.

Director Paul Schrader and his Japanese-American crew created a visually stunning masterpiece which was nominated for the Palme d’Or in 1985. The stunning sets were designed by Eiko Ishioka, with an unforgettable soundtrack composed by Phillip Glass. Executive produced by George Lucas and Francis Coppola. In English and Japanese with English subtitles.

Screening in digitally restored 4K on the big screen for the first time in Sydney!
